Feats of Strength and Humor

So yeah, if you're listening to this in the future at some point, we are a bunch of friends and we're playing Daggerheart playtest. I think we're mostly sticking with rule version currently 1.4. So if the rules are a little bit different than what you're used to, hey, that's how playtests work. So welcome. Welcome to all of my players. Thanks for gaming with us. So anybody want to do anything before we get started? I know that Mrs. Too Much in particular has a class feature that requires her to roll some initial dice. So if anybody has a check your class features on your character sheets. Um, I have to pick a domain, right? I need a, um, feature, a community, a community. Thank you. You need a community. Okay. Yeah. I don't know how I would randomly select. Uh, just basically I would go through the community and just how many communities are there? I would just roll a dice probably to, oh, okay. That's a good idea. Yeah. Um, and my prayer dice, I got a, um, one and a three. So I have four, um, that I can help to either reduce incoming damage for people, um, add to any role result or exchange for hope. Um, so just so you guys know that I have that. And Michaela, you were asking earlier, you have your sparing touch for two hit points, but you also have mending touch. As long as you touch was only during a long ride. It says when you can take a few minutes, like you can't necessarily use it during combat, but you can spend two hope as much as you want to heal hip points or stress is my understanding. So again, for those of you, if anybody's listening in the future, hi, we are still learning the rules. So everything is this is this is us learning as we go. So hopefully people enjoy maybe listening to us trying to figure stuff out. Does anybody else need anything prepped? I know Mazz does not need to prep anything. I don't believe Boga has any thing to roll at the beginning of a session. - Hi, hello. - Nope. - Do you? So you don't have to roll your rally die at the beginning. You do it when you describe how you rally. - Yeah, I have to do it for the session. So I have to like, it can't, like again, I think it's one of those not in combat, but. - Yeah, fair enough. Fair enough. So I guess while we're getting set up here, I will kind of go through. So our campaign takes place in a land that we are calling the Shatterlands. The Shadowlands has different areas with different features. And all of us are from different parts of the Shadowlands. We have actually let's go through and maybe I guess maybe we should do this. Just just say what your character name is and what just like, not like a full introduction, but like what class you are and maybe what maybe what race you are if you want. Um, my name is Tvethlona. I'm from the country of Svinia and I am a Sarif. My God is Kor. And I am a Furbog. I come from a long line of Furbog people. Thank you, Tvethlona. Who do we have next? I'll go. My name is Ariel. I am a goblin. Ranger with my companion, Pazu. The sandcat. Thank you very much, Ariel. What do we got next? I am Philo a bank bar mechanical automation, the automaton thing. Robody, but a bar. So, you know, perfect. And next, I am Booger Freesia. I am a Vivid Sorcerer of Elemental Origin. Awesome. Thank you. And Maz? And I am Maz, a Seaborn Fairy Guardian of, you know, with wings and cool stuff. Awesome. And I am currently the GM, but I will be playing in different sessions. For those of you kind of tuning in, if you're tuning in, we are planning to do this campaign, what we're calling Campfire style, which is some of us are gonna tell stories sometimes, and then some of us are gonna tell stories other times. We're gonna rotate out GMs, as if we were telling stories around a campfire at the end of our campaign. So I'm currently the GM, but I will be playing Salvador Darkwalker, a Ribbit Rogue from the wilds of the Endless Forest. So that is who we have in this campaign. And I guess without further ado, it's probably time that I turn to my notes and get started. - Before we start, my character sheet doesn't show the appropriate weapons and I cannot remember where to edit this, it's not. like they're not equipped or they're not there at all. - I have one, but the short sword is in the wrong spot and the other one is an unarmed strike. That's definitely not what I did. - Yeah, I do see that. If you go to equipment, you should be able to equip things. At the bottom, there's like, if it's like, if you have the screen collapsed, you might not see the equipment thing, but there should be like effects and features, equipment details, that sort of thing towards the bottom. OK, yes. And then you can equip your weapons and things from there. Does anybody have anything else? Again, like this is very freeform. We are all learning the game. So please don't ever feel like you can't ask questions because I am running the session and I am also still going to have questions. There's a lot of good looks in charm there, buddy. A lot of great for you. That's my that's my goal. Anybody have anything same of his biography? No, my, um, attributes are not as I had saved them. I think that's probably what the problem is. I'm so sorry. No, no, take your time. I'd rather we have it all set up and then you can edit your character. We've got time. We've got time. Then the more he has, he's going to take 14 minutes. We got all the time in the world. Yeah. I have no idea. This is my first time running anything. Technically, I've run like a session, negative one for some friends running the Marvel TTRPG, but session negative zero, or negative zero. Yeah, negative one, we did it essentially as, let's just, I'm gonna drop you into a random encounter that's not related to anything and see how the combat works. So this will be my first time with like a real story. and you guys are gonna have to fill in a lot of blanks because if I just read word for word what I wrote will be done before one o'clock, which is in 10 minutes. So. - I don't think that'll be a problem. - I mean, I've not really, other than Mikaela, I've not really played games like this with you all. So I didn't know if you'd just been like, "Pee-line, "here's the objective, walk straight towards it." So we'll see. - Have you met a couple of these people? - I figure Teacha is gonna be pretty, pretty, he's gonna be like, "Ooh, shiny and wander off." And I'm gonna have to figure stuff out as we go there. - I think you're gonna have a hard time like keeping people interested in the same shiny. It's really gonna be the problem. - That's fair. - It's like Herding kittens, my friend. It's Herding kittens right here. Good luck with this, buddy. - It's true. I'm excited though. I don't know. I'm a little, like, I think the thing that interests me most about tabletop games is the fact that we all get tell stories together. Anybody who knows me probably knows that I'm a big story person. Anyways, so the fact that we get to tell stories together and just kind of make it up on the fly is awesome. What were you saying, Jen? I'm sorry. This is still showing that as a secondary weapon. I think it was not a secondary weapon previously. - There has been, it's listed in your equipment as secondary, so yeah, you might just need to go and equip a primary. 'Cause Teecha has, or sorry, Mazz has a short sword that is primary weapon. - Primary and secondary, I got two. - Yes, he is double-sorting. - Known for that, how do you think I got this beard? - What does that mean? - And that's because you couldn't shave with it? - Right, what does that mean? No, I shaped it. I shaped it with the two like it's like comes to like a thing. Like, you know, like Superman shaving with a mirror in his heat vision. That's you. Yeah. I mean, that's that's what my barber does. So just there the other day, I was like, yo, Angel, get up there. Get up the door, door of the buddy. I absolutely do not see a sword that. Is not secondary or two handed. Or some kind of physical thing. Let me double check. I don't know that I have a character that can use a sword, but I should be able to. Should be able to. Yeah. Maybe they, maybe they change. So you can't, maybe a short sword is only a secondary weapon though. That might be. No, I mean, I still have it though. I mean, unless, cause it says primary weapon, physical, one handed, short sword, one handed short sword, secondary weapon. If I, if I searched for short sword, there's only a secondary weapon now. So you might have been you might have been just opted in since it was one point three. You might have had two short swords. Maybe a broad sword is what I'm looking for. That's a one handed primary agility melee. There you go. Yes. OK. Am I supposed to start with two hope? Yeah, you start with two weapons. Yeah, you're good. Now to hope to. Oh, to hope. Yes. I'm sorry. I thought you said to though. My bad. Now the problem is it's not letting me. You might have two weapons selected already. Let me look at your character. You have a whip. You have two secondary weapons currently, so after we move one of them. All right. Okay. I'm getting it. We're all good. We're just chilling. I feel like I remember it saying to like. One was marked as like a primary short sword. And when I think I selected originally, one was marked as a secondary. short sword, a little bit weird, but maybe, maybe I was also at 1.3 things. So I can never unequip my short sword. We will let you, we'll let you keep it. We'll let you keep it. But players in the future, you might not be able to run two short swords like mass is well, got old man. The mass. Yep. All right. Little Mavenator. Everybody got things equipped. Everybody good. Make sure your armor is equipped because your armor, by the way, there's a new armor with 1.4. If you want to increase your evasion score, the new armor is zero armor score, but plus one to evasion. I'm sorry, two armor score, but plus one to evasion. I think I swapped to that one actually. Yes. It's pretty with what I have at this time. Although, although I still have the other one in my inventory because I couldn't figure out how to remove the old armor in my inventory. I think you'll need to go to edit character and then unselect it most likely. Yeah, I unselected it and selected the other one, but I didn't bother to try to delete it because I couldn't get it really quickly. If you click on it under your equipment, you should just be able to click remove. I think. Really? Okay. Yeah. I don't know if I believe it. So everyone should start with to hope, uh, one handful of gold, no stress. Oh, there's a button for that. Okay. There you go. And I think other than that, we should be good. Everybody good? Yes. I think so. Okay. Stop. Allow me to transport you via Roll20. Is everybody seeing what I think they're seeing? A campfire on fire. Hello. All right. Out in a clearing in the middle of the woods under a canopy of the brightest stars you've ever seen. A campfire blazes, shooting sparks and flames high into the night sky. Around the campfire, loud and raucous, laughing and drinking and singing and eating, roasting hosting meats and marshmallows, swapping stories and strumming instruments, sit you and your closest companions. The ones you've journeyed with as long as you can remember. The ones you've fought beside and bled with. The ones, maybe the only ones, who know who you are and what you are really capable of. The ones you trust with your life because across years and miles, you already have. You're gathered to celebrate being here, being with each other, knowing each other. You're gathered to celebrate friendship and adventure and trials overcome. You're gathered because you believe it's time to put down your weapons and find some peace for the rest of your days. You're gathered to say goodbye, maybe not to each other, but to the lives you've lived together so far. The adventures you've shared haven't been easy. You've seen pain, felt pain, and when the situation demanded, even been forced to inflict it. You've known loss, suffered defeat, and failed when victory was all but assured. But you've done your best to live a good life and bad times. You've tried to give as much as you took to help others as much as you yourselves were helped to leave something behind for those who would be there after you. And now, adventurers, I turn it over to you and ask, around this campfire, is there anything you'd like to do? Anything you'd like to talk about? Anything you'd like to discuss before we dive in completely? We've had some good times, haven't we? I am so happy to see all my old friends all gathered together once again. Please. Duh. All still alive as well. What a surprise. That's so little faith in our ability to stay alive. We are accomplished adventurers, you know. You know, I did almost lose my toe that one time though. You have nine others, you'll be fine. I remember that's what you told me, but I didn't want to lose that one. I'm glad that Hylo helped me out. I managed fine. I don't have 10 toes. I know I'm happy to be around the fire with everybody though and to share, you know, food and drink and, you know, there's too many things to really count too many times together, you know, to just pick, you know, only one, right? so many thanks. Cheers to that. Cheers. Cheers. Is there anything that any of you remember in particular that maybe we're not going to talk about tonight because that wouldn't be a part of what I planned? But is there any any stories that when you're gathered with these people, you remember the most and you know. What, what are, what are your fondest memories? What are your scariest memories? I think that time that, uh, Mars was on death row and, uh, they told me to just keep going and, uh, to not worry about them. Um, I, I was, I honestly don't know what I would do without you, mass. So that was very hard for me. But to know that you just wanted the best for me and that you were willing to let me just go and take care of myself, that meant so much to me. You know, it meant just as much to me to let you go off and to provide that for you. Because I think one of the things that brings us together more than anything else is how we're gonna help each other each in our own way and I'm here to help you you know grow and to you know do what you need to do you know to be I don't know be successful I mean right to keep moving and and if that means leaving me behind I'm gonna do it yeah but uh you guys have always been more like family than friends so I think that leaving anyone behind is difficult for sure. Never a decision that we want to make but we only make when there's nothing else that we can do but we've always ended up coming back together again and you know finding a way to make that work. That face has pounders together. A tight, tight bundle, like sticks. Yes, I agree. I know you never know. Go ahead. I actually had forgotten about your toe. As I recall, it was my fault that you almost lost it. So I had to help. You know, I'm glad you came around because I liked that one and I didn't want to go anywhere. I've only got so many. I'm not blessed to fall 10 either. So I guess when he can fly around, maybe you don't need all the toes, but I prefer to keep him, you know, to jump and hop around and move about. Maybe that was his lucky toe. Her lucky toe? Yeah, they, you know, I'd say we're tied together with fate as sort of like a rising tide, right? The tides come up and then they go down and they also come towards the shore then move further away, but they always end up back together again. Like my toe. It's back together again. >> You know, I will be here to reattach toes if you happen to lose one. >> There we go. No, that's important. That's what brings family together. >> Yes, exactly. Reattaching toes together. That makes a family a family. >> I like to think of all the great songs from Hilo as well. Whenever he is able to grate us with a wonderful tune. I'll say those are some of my favorite memories. Does anybody have any favorite songs from Hylo, recounting any adventures? - It's hard to pick a favorite when they're also witty. - I mean, if anybody has a toy flying, they can remember, I would certainly love to hear it. Maybe we will remember the songs as the times happen to us rather than, rather than recounting them all now. There's simply too many to, uh, to the count. How can I pick? Hello. Can I ask you a question? Of course. Do you, as a wordsmith bard, do you perform songs or is it more like poetry? Or is it a zingy one liners or is it a combination of everything? It's a combination of everything. I've, I've, uh, I specialize in words, but tunes go along with, and in fact, um, he, uh, he has decided that his, his spell as a bard, his spell focus is actually going to be some, uh, kind of like a music box mechanism in his arm. So he's going to have, uh, as he's doing certain spells, little things will play. That's awesome. Do you have that with you at the campfire? Um, yeah, sure. Are there any other, uh, stories that you would like to remember before we continue? Do you remember the time that Bogafrozs licked that code stool and then got very high? Oh that was so pretty. I was tripping. Massive kononas. You kept trying to lick them with your tongue. It took me days to get the taste off. I remember Boak has said they could taste water by hearing it. It's true, it's true. They called me the dowsing Boak. You may be glad to have a tongue. The descriptions were strange and confusing. Get used to it after a lifetime of it. A lifetime of being I or a lifetime of having a tongue? I will not say any more on this matter. The taunts were always the gateway, I suppose. Is it on us? Many lifetimes we lived. [LAUGHTER] I mean, it fits with the magic, doesn't it? I mean, that seems to-- you know, that rings true. Just wait until-- just wait till you see what I can do with the bread and bread and shrooms. Quite something. I'm not sure Boga should be in charge of breakfast. You all seem to like it last time. Is that why? Yeah. I do remember a warmth in my chest and a lightness in my head and that explains it. I thought I was cursed by core this whole time. No, when the stars are moving around, that's why. Now I know. Any other memories you'd like to bring up or shall we move along? I remember going to each of your homelands and learning more about you. about you. Some of my favorite trips were going to your places of origin. And when Yerel, when she tripped and fell into the cow dong in Sweden, I could not stop laughing. We agreed never to speak of that again. Oh, sorry, Yerel. I forgot. I blame Boca's breakfast for the clumsiness, obviously. Well, you know, if there's one thing our adventures have told us together is that everybody steps in the cow dung at some point. It's not just yet or now. Mm hmm. Light. I mean, I don't fly over it, but. And sometimes somebody pushes you into it. I mean, it's just. (laughs) - That sounds a little bit like Sal to me, probably more than anybody else, you know? - He's a sly one, that's for sure. - Yeah. - Sal doesn't look up, but he, a big smile spreads across his face. He didn't know you all knew that he was, he was making mischief in the background all the time. - Anytime I get into trouble, that's why. Oh, of course, Mads, it's never your fault. No, I would never do anything like that. Never bring it upon myself. If you've never heard a machine snort before, it kind of sounds like something hitting the mic, like my mug hitting the mic, but I won't do it right now because it'll hurt your ears. Is it kind of a clang snort sound coming from a low? Is it like a fly hitting the inside of a bell? Kind of. Yeah, yeah. No, clonk. Anything else you'd like to talk about around the campfire? Any other memories you would like to surface before? Whatever is going to happen, happen. All right. As the the warm smell of campfire smoke and roasting food surrounds you and the meat and whiskey fills your mouths and bellies and laughter and song from your friends echoes far into the woods beyond you. Sal raises a glass to the times and troubles we've shared. Sal says and holds up his glass, waits for everybody to hold up their glass as well. And then after looking around the campfire, um, everyone takes a drink. Cheers. And, uh, after you drink, Hush falls over the group and you know what's coming and you scoot a little closer to the edge of the fallen log or tree stump or ground or whatever you happen to be sitting on eagerly anticipating it. Sal looks at you, each of you one in turn and says, do you remember the time we, and as the question is spoken, you are taken back, back, back to the past, to your past, to one of the many adventures you've shared with the ones gathered around the campfire with you. You are taken back to the shining city of Skyland. The buildings, tall as you've ever seen, sparkle in the bright sunlight. For some of you, this might be the very first time in this wondrous city. For others, you might know the streets as well as the back of your hand. For all of you though, you've never seen Skyland like this. Never seen it so dressed up. So beautiful. It's like everything has been polished to a shine. It might be magic for all you know, making the city look so good. Either way it's an impressive sight. Everywhere you look there's streamers and banners and balloons, there's people in party hats, eating carnival food, and everyone really and truly seems happy. It's a celebration. It's the celebration. The 100 Years Peace. For almost everyone this will be the only 100 Years Peace celebration they ever get to attend so they're living it up. This morning, the sun is still shining, just starting to creep to the top of the sky, but already the drinks are flowing and people's bellies are stuffed with food. It is, in a word, wonderful. Now you know that soon the official festivities will kick off with an announcement from the Herald of the Square, but before that, I want to hear about all of you. How would you get here? Why did you come to this event particularly? How do all of you meet each other at this event? Talk about whether you knew each other before. Talk about if this is your first time meeting each other. I wanna hear, I want, you know, I've set the stage. I wanna know what you all have planned with the 100 Years Peace celebration you are attending. - Well, I for one have come to this great city to spread the words of Kor, of peace and of altruism. I've come to heal the sick, sort of like a medic tent at a fair. I'm here for anybody who has maybe overindulged. I thought that this would be a great use of my talents and a great way to spread the good words of KOR. And as such, I actually met Yerel at one of my med tent activities. She had drank a little too much whiskey, let's say. And so I healed her and she let me pet her cat. So that was a great experience for me. And she's introduced me to a few other characters around town. I really, really enjoy getting to know all the people of this wonderful town. Pazu is an excellent judge of care. So when he permitted Filana to Pat him, I knew that. She was a good person, somebody that we should keep in touch with and get to know better. - Can we experience a little bit of that first meeting? So it sounds like Uriel was maybe, I don't know if Uriel was in the medic tent or if Uriel was resting in the shade or what, but I would love to kind of narrow in on that moment for just a little bit, kind of experience the interaction between the two of you. Svetlana is walking down the street and she sees a young goblin mobyn on the side of the road with her hat and she seems to be a little worse for wear. She looks severely dehydrated for sure. So she goes up to this stranger and asks if she needs some help, some healing, some water. Hello, Miss. Can I help you? Oh, I'll be all right. It seems like maybe you could use some water at least and I offer her my flask of water or my jug of water here. - Water, water is lovely. Bless you. - You're welcome, dear. And you know what? Kor is shining on us today. It's a wonderful, beautiful day. How about I lay my hands on you and heal a little bit of this intoxication? Would that be great? - If you are so generous as to provide this gift, I will accept. And I pet her arm, and as I touch her skin, a warm glow starts from the edges or from the middle of my palm, out my fingertips, and into her shoulder. And you can see as the brightness spreads throughout her body. And she just seems to be a little bit more alert and aware of her surroundings. That is something. How have you come by this ability? It's the light of Kor. It's not my doing at all. You see, wherever the sun shines Kor is here and he will help us to feel better. May I pet your cat? He's so fluffy. You must ask Pazu if you may pet him. Yes, he does. He makes his own choices and he will determine who is a suitable companion and allowed to pet him. Jay, good companion you are to speak on his behalf. Pazu, may I give you a little pat on the head? It will be gentle, I promise. Pazu evaluates Vettlana, sort of, you know, the over-the-shoulder casual cat look, and gives a little nod of his head. Oh, and I give him a little pat on the head, just very gentle. What a good kitty. Pazu's head tilts just a little bit, that subtle acknowledgement that cats do, that This is a good pat. Good pat. It is great to meet you, Pasu. And who is your companion? What is your name? I don't think I cut it. My name is Ariel. Again, thank you so much for your assistance. I've traveled far and have maybe overdone it just a smidge this last night. I'll do sometimes. Yes, that is okay. It is great to meet you Ariel. My name is Vethlana. It is my first time in the city here too. Do you know many places around here? Where have you been staying? I have traveled here with my community. We travel often, but we definitely wanted to make it to Skylands for this 100 years peace celebration. It's a once in a lifetime event. We definitely did not want to miss it. This time I just stay with my people. It's so great that you have people to travel with. I know it's always so scary for me to go to a new city all by myself. So it's great that you have people to come with you. It is. It's always nice to have companions. These are the family that I was born to. These are the people? Yes. That you want to point to? Yes. So nice. I'm not very close with my family, to be honest. It's kind of sad. But I love to meet other people and to see how their family really supports them in their decisions. It's nice. I shall have to introduce you. They're very welcoming. They're a friendly but rowdy bunch. We like rowdy. What brought you to the city? Actually, it's a little strange, I know, for for some people, but I really feel like it's my life's work to spread good news and kindness to everyone. And I saw that this event was happening and I know sometimes it can get a little rambunctious. So I thought I would come and see if anybody might need my help you. Great people like you. And grateful we are. I am happy to help. Have you met any new friends here in the city? Not new friends exactly, but my companion, Maz, is also visiting. Oh, that is so nice. Are they here now? No, I have. I was just on my way to meet them, but I was running a little late and decided to rest here in the shade. I try not to run late, but sometimes these things are good. Well, that's okay. If they're a good friend, I'm sure that they will understand. Would you like to accompany me? - Absolutely, I've just been walking the streets trying to see if anybody needs help, but I'm free all this afternoon. - And Mazz, what are you doing currently? Right now we have Uriel and Svetlana on the way to you. Dun, dun, dun. But what are you doing currently? You are in town, I mean, you don't have to be in town for the 100 years piece, But what are you doing in town for the 100 years piece? But looking around at the, you know, shiny kind of city around me, knowing that it doesn't usually look like this, you know, I almost call it sort of spit shine because underneath, you know, having been here before, I can see kind of like the grime of the dirt sort of exists. You know, that people, you know, haven't been here are probably missing as they go around the the town. you know, seeing, you know, all the, you know, people lying in the streets, you know, maybe they're inebriated or something like that lying in the streets to anybody, nobody I know would be doing that naturally. But going around and slowly kind of walking up and down to, you know, think of, you know, vague memories of when I've been here in the past, thinking of, you know, connections that are there. And, you know, the reasons why I would have left mostly, you know, to distance myself from some people who are still here. But knowing that one of my companions, Uriel is in town and kind of meandering to where I sort of last saw her because, you know, I thought that she was in one vicinity, but we had gotten, you know, separated when she wanted to go get, you know, some drinks at a at a pub or a, I don't know, a pub, like I should call it, like, tavern, tavern, tavern, that's what I wanted in a tavern. And so I sort of am slowly walking my way over there and taking in the sights and also cautiously optimistic because even with the under, kind of seedy underbelly, obvious to me, it is nice to see them celebrate what has been a peaceful time for a very long time. - Also, this is a festival, this is festivities. You don't have to go into a tavern to get drinks if you don't want to. There's food, there's drinks everywhere. You can't turn around without bumping into someone selling a mead on a stick or a tankard full of mead or any treat that you can imagine you can probably find in Skyland today. There are booths set up everywhere, all these things. So, all right, so, go ahead. - No, no, as I walk down the street, I do notice, you know, different people. You know, I noticed Altamaton kind of, you know, all further down the street that I think I recognize, but then I'm not sure. So I keep kind of moving down. And as I'm walking up, some person kind of bumps into me and stumbles and steps on my toe and I go, Oh, not that bow again and continue walking. And continue to walk till I see in the distance, I see Uriel and, you know, somebody else, you know, with Uriel, they seem to be talking or, you know, interacting as Uriel, you know, has gotten up off the ground. OK. And all of you, where do you meet? Do you meet at a stall? Do you meet on the street? Do you meet, what interests you about the festivities? Well, now that I'm feeling a bit refreshed, thanks to Svetlana, I realized that I'm hungry, so I'm browsing the vendors' food wagons are my favorite because they arrive in the Skylands on wheels with a variety of food that you can't find anywhere else. So, I think- Is there a particular food you'd like to find? Fried potatoes. Fried potatoes. Why don't you make the very first roll of our campaign an instinct roll? Let's see if you can find some fried potatoes at one of the stands. There's so many flashing lights, so many signs. Everywhere you turn, someone's trying to sell you one thing or another. Everybody is... The energy is really high. Everybody is... It's a fair, it's a festival. I mean, it's not a parade, but it's the parade energy. Yeah. It's crowded and chaotic and joyful. Exactly. - Okay, and how, I just do the fear and hope first. - You just roll your duality dice and tell me the number and whether or not fear or hope is higher. - It's a hope 12. - Hope was for fried potatoes. I'm just glad that that's where we started. - My hope for the fried potatoes was so strong that it cannot be topped. - All right, you said a 12 with hope? - Yes. - All right, with a 12 with hope, You scan the crowd, you're looking around, you're trying to... You're not a particularly tall character. Is that correct? No, I'm a bit on the height challenge scale. OK, so you actually you kind of... You're looking around and Svetlana next to you notices you looking for things and kind of like lowers her shoulder a little bit and you hop up on Svetlana's shoulder and you're looking through the crowd and you don't see it first. You actually smell it. The smell of roasted or I guess fried, salted, just absolutely delicious potatoes, wafts to you, and you point the direction that you need to go. And Svetlana takes you there at Pazu, following behind. I mean, I guess unless you want positive to do something else, sure cat. Uh, how's your legs potatoes too. And, uh, you get into the, the potato line. Padre's potatoes is the name of the, the stand that you, that you see and smell and get in line for. Padre's potatoes. The scent is mouth watering. I am so excited and I've got Celana with me and I hope also that you like potatoes, but I know from experience that fried potatoes are the absolute best possible meal after recovering from imbibing perhaps a little too much. Wow, that is good to know. I've never tried fried potatoes before. Well, that would be my pleasure to gift this, you know, paragon of potatoes to you. They smell wonderful. Wonderful. So yeah, we're waiting in line moving forward on my way to give potatoes. There is, you know, like they've already maybe set out some signs that say you can have toppings or what you could add to your potatoes. So, you know, the line moves a little bit slowly as they're preparing everything, but I'm sure that the wait will be worth it. And as we're waiting in line, I'm watching the people crossing the square And I see Maz. Maz, Maz, I holler, wave. Jump up and down because they may not be able to see me down here, but I'm determined to get their attention. Is that the next time? Yeah, kind of like I think I see something so I've flapped my wings really briefly to kind of give myself an extra bit of height and I look over there and I notice that there's Padre potatoes and then I see you know, uriel right there and it clicks in my head. Of course, uriel would be right here because there's potatoes for sale and that makes complete sense. Classic uriel. I see her standing with somebody else and then walk up and ask, you know, hey, uh, how's the line? How are you doing? How are you feeling? Oh, well, I might have caroused a bit much recently. Let me introduce you to my new companion. This is Svetlana. Svetlana, this is Maz. Svetlana was kind enough to offer me some water as I was resting in the shade on my way, no particular reason, obviously, just having a seat. And since she's so kind, and we struck up a conversation, and I invited her to accompany me on the way to the potatoes, hybrid potatoes. And Andy friend of Ariel is a friend of mine. Nice to meet you. So nice to meet you as well and have you tried any of these fried potatoes yet, Svetlana? I have not but they smell amazing. Have you? Yes, because I haven't had these ones but judging by the wonderful smell of you know food in the air it's sort of kind of almost like over takes kind of everything else because there's so many different you know food I guess things being cooked around us, but that one stands out above all. And I say to myself, this one I know is going to be good. I know it's going to be good. >> Good. I can't wait. >> Yeah. Then so I'll be getting something. So I'll hop into line. I kind of scooch in with both Uriel and Svetlana. >> Fortunately, Pazu was holding a place in line and we'll just pass that along to Maz. That's how this works. As Maz steps into line, somebody behind just kind of and his wife kind of taps him on the shoulder and is like, "Honey, it's okay. There's plenty of potatoes for all of us, but you definitely, someone behind you has noticed that you weren't in line before they got in line. As the line moves forward, eventually, you know, over time, you guys can discuss more as the line moves and things like that, but you get to the front of the line and when you finally get up there, you notice that the person in the window, the window is probably not the right word, but in the stall is wearing all black with a little white collar underneath the black. And he's holding a pad and he's just like, yeah, what can I get you then? - Potatoes, potatoes, my good laugh. - Potatoes is all we sell, what do you want? - Potatoes with fried onions and cheese and some of those, the crumbly meat bits and more cheese. - And he turns behind him and yells, two potatoes on a raft and make them float. And then takes, rips the piece of paper off, sticks it on the thing and slides it across. And anything else then? - Whatever my companions want. It's all on my tab. - I'll just share with you, Ariel. If that's okay, Ariel. - You should probably get your honor. on the guy running the stall chuckles bold assumption that she'll share. I am plant based. So is there anything that you can put on top of the fries or on top of the potatoes that has plants in it? Potatoes as plants. Well, it's down. It's garlic on top. We can do garlic. Yes, that would be great. Thank you. Takes the pad off. He doesn't have anything clever to say this time, because that was that was the one that I made up. He takes the pad, slides it and looks at looks at mass now. I always like to ask, what's good? What's popular? He says potatoes. And then he looks up, makes eye contact with you with everything. You know, I'll take everything then. And he just shouts back the works and slides that paper along. Slides that paper along and then turns back to Uriel and asks for payment, which we're going to say inconsequential piece of gold. It's it's potatoes. I'm not going to I'm not going to take your one handful of gold that you have as a character right off the bat. So fine. I mean, it's right. - We'll say a single gold, just kind of flick it to them if you'd like, and then that's it. - Very good, very good. We move on to the other end of the stall, the wagon, to wait for our prepared food. - All right, and while the potato waiting is happening, I want to know what Boga and Hilo are doing and how your lives might intersect, either with everybody else we've met so far or with each other. Well, Boga is just sticking to the alleyways but occasionally manifesting an illusion to scare a drunk that stumbles by. Occasionally going into a, um, occasionally, well, when she does go out of the, uh, go out of the alleys, she takes form of a kind of tiefling with long horns and deep trims and eyes, but just like kind of grayish skin. And I believe she'll be, uh, she'll be walking near nearby looking for, um, looking for somewhere to just stop for the day. And does does Boga know currently Maz and Svetlana in Uriel or are like are you acquaintances, friends never met before? No, Boga is fresh from fresh off the boat from. From her homeland and give you the map back for a second, because I believe you're so dumb. I believe you were down in the bottom right down here. My growth. Yeah, she's fresh off the boat from mine. Grove. Awesome. Awesome. And what about you, Ilo? About Ilo? I know it's been wandering like he doesn't stand still for very long because what is what ends up happening with that? He's constantly looking around and not necessarily watching where he's going. And more than once has been startled by one of, um, Bogus illusions and then tried to follow them until they disappeared and then looks around really confused. Um, having never been to, um, Skyland before everything's really new. Um, and he's constantly looking around for something like inspiring or that he knows and just not finding anything at all. Except he thought he saw someone he had met at the from there. Oh, no, I forgot the name of the town now. Oh, from Crankins Harbor, because he's been along the coast there before. But he lost them in the crowd and it's kind scanning now, looking around to see where he could find them. And then he sees this cat-like thing that catches his interest, and he just follows it around, having never seen a sandcat-looking thing before, and is just wondering what in the world it's doing here amongst all these people, this celebration. And the whole rest of the celebration is lost, and he's just following this cat and stumbling into people on occasion, Apologizing profusely. But absolutely as he's tracking this cat. The good news is that the the spirits are so high at the celebration that a a clank stumbling into people. I'm picturing arms out like, come here, come here. Just like arms out, walking straight forward. That's that is not enough. Like in in normal times, that might be that might set some people on edge, but everybody is in such good spirits. And let's let's be honest already, at least slightly drunk that, you know, maybe you get maybe you get a few a few ales sloshed on you and those sorts of things. But you don't you don't start any fights with your with your stumbling. People are people are too happy. Pazu is ever on guard, ever attentive, has noticed the clank that appears to be following their group and is now observing as they wait in line for their potatoes. But Pazu has evaluated the danger and determined that the clank means no harm. But Pazu sort of leans into Yriel to sort of convey something that should be evaluated. So Ariel reaches down, comforting Pazu, you know, just sort of cupping her hand around his head and there's sort of silent communication between them. And Ariel turns to see the Clank, who is just fascinated by Pazu. But seemingly no threat. She calls out to the Clank. Hello, would you like to approach? This is Pazu. - And Hilary acts with Starlement, like, oh, Pazu. And he looks at the cat, pleasure. And then to the shorter person there, but way taller than the cat. And he's like, what was your name again? - Well, my name is Ariel. What is your name? - Hello. Hello, what is your name? Hilo. I, Uriel, and he glances around, suspecting some sort of prank. I've been down and I whisper in Uriel's ear, "His name, Hilo." Hi, oh hi, Hilo, hi. Hilo. What? Greetings. - He kind of cranks his head a little bit to the side, like looking like, are you damaged? Like not saying that out loud, but like trying to assess. - What brings you to the square this fine day? - I'm here for the celebration. Aren't you here for the celebration? - At the moment, I am here for potatoes. They do not have potatoes where you come from. Not. We're looking for. They're not native potatoes are not native to my region. It's a it's a fairly. Arid region that doesn't have a lot of of crops. And as you as you say that a buildings and you hear or up and Uh, your, your entire order for all three of you slides across and it is just. It's a pile of the messiest, like greasiest, most delicious looking fried potatoes you've ever seen. It's just, uh, masses in particular is slathered with like, I mean, everything you can think of, like you don't want to dig in too far because you're not sure what you'll find. But you just want to eat it. And the the who you presume is Padre slides the potatoes to you and you're just holding these right in front of right in front of Hilo. Hilo, do you partake of food? I am not familiar with point. One second. Sorry. If he doesn't answer that with high low, I don't know what to tell you. Well, I know that I'm nervous to dig into mine because, like I said, I don't even know what I'm going to find. These little crunchy bits, though. Oh, my God. Oh, yeah. The kid is so good. You got the kitchen sink is what you got. That's that's the joy of the of the everything. Like each bite is some new fantastic combination. And there's something sweet, salty. Oh, oh, man, actually tastes kind of bad, but I'm still going. Like, oh, my gosh, I'm famous. Man. And I ask if I can take the mine from mass. May I please? Yeah. Just make sure you get one of those little crunchy bits right up on the top, because I'll tell you that like that that makes it worth it. Well, as I, uh, you know, munch away at my, uh, potatoes, I glanced back over towards, um, Hilo and I kind of wait for him. You know, I wonder, I don't think they eat, but you know, I guess, I guess he'll fill us in. Sorry. No, no, no. Mrs. Reinthe called and it was like, I usually have my phone, I do not disturb, but when certain people call, I answer. So not, not of these. Although, and then he takes that exaggerated, like, like his whole body kind of bends forward and then like lifts up, like he's trying to inhale the scent, which, which he's doing. They smell delicious. Uh, Uriel already got her mouth full of fine potatoes. Nods enthusiastically. Yeah. I am, or Svetlana is a little bit, um, wary at first. She's never had these before. so she sniffs them and they smell pretty good. And she tries one, they're pretty good. Yeah. And she picks at hers. - And as we're sitting there eating, I kind of look around or Maz looks around and notices, you know, the way in which Svetlana is eating and thinks, you know, the kind of cautious sort of nature that, you know, that probably, you know, some insight into her character and how she sees things how she interacts with the world. Then it continues, you know, just little things that you note as you go along. And then kind of looks over and notices a little, I think you described the music type box. I can't tell what it is on the arm for Hi-Lo, but there's a sort of like protrusion there, I guess. And I sort of point over to it, I'm just like, you know, what's this bump on the arm for? I've never seen anything quite like that and kind of nodding towards Hilo. - Oh, and it's actually, it's a slot that kind of there that there's a tube with little bumps all over it that you can see in that slot that's kind of right there. And he pulls it out and he shows you and says, "This is my book." And he puts it back in. - Your book? - Yes. - What is this? And he winds a little, he like does a little motion with his wrist and some music starts playing from his arm. And kind of like ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. And it's, you know, got a nice little tune to it. - That Lana starts dancing. It's so nice, I like this tune. - Oddly enough, he's never had anyone dance to his arm music before. He's kind of like, that doesn't normally do that. He doesn't. - And that's why the hands just look in the eyes. Yeah, looks in astonishment and kind of amazement. Just like, wow. Say, 'cause you know, you go through the world every day and you don't know what's going to be quite out there and you've never seen anything quite like that. Now that's impressive. - And then he looks at Ma's again, he was like, wait. You're from Kraken? Yes, yeah, I've been in Kraken, I was in Kraken for many years living down by the water around the docks, making, living doing different things. Have you been there yourself? Yes, you have the Kraken scent. What's the Kraken scent? Like you're from Kraken. I don't know. Well, I hope it's not too much, but I do know that I was there for a long time. To me, it reminds me of home when salt is in the air and you can kind of get that feeling of being near the water and the breeze with the salt. And even the sounds, it makes me think of that, of the water kind of bouncing or waves lapping against, you know, the docks, you know, so it brings me all to that same places. Me too. Yeah. What brought you to to Kraken? It was the first town I visited when I left home. Did you enjoy your time there? I found Kraken Lacking. But it was OK. I'm sorry. Hold on. Norts with laughter. catching a little bit of a wordplay there. Hilo, hilo. Where do you come from? I'm from Cogsburg. This large community of Clanks in Cogsburg? Yes. It's the only settlement I'm aware of that is actually governed by Clank. Very interesting. And I'm sorry, I'm sort of a blunt goblin. Is it rude to ask where about you originated? How did you come to be? I assume it's not, you know, a mommy clank and a daddy clank. So, um, I don't know. Thing about, um, uh, Hilo is, is his eyes are just fixed as these giant circles. Right. Um, but there's this weird pause that you get the impression he would be blinking at you if he could. Um, and, and again, he kind of tilts a little bit and says, yes. Uh, a mom and a dad clank. Yes. I have those. Oh, okay. then my knowledge of plank community needs to be expanded clearly. Come walk with us. We will browse the wares and eat fried potatoes. He kind of shrugs and nods and seems amiable to just kind of wander about. He's still learning, you know, experiencing this wonderful thing and is glad to share. Sorry, Noah. As we move about, I look around. I'm like, hey, has anybody seen the privy? I'm going I'm going to go run to that real quick. I'll be right back. Oh, oh, I think in an alley over there. In that particularly shadowy alley. Yeah. As mass dashes off, you, uh, your eyes follow Mazz's direction and in that same direction, you notice a, a tiefling with Longhorns, deep crimson eyes, grayish skin and maybe a little unsettlingly the this character seems to be looking directly at you and you look away and look back and they're still looking at you look away look back again they're still looking at you and I don't know maybe you maybe you think nothing of it. Maybe you do something about it, but I will leave that to you. But you'd notice a character looking in your direction for whatever reason. With noting, the solution is made out of steam, so it's gonna shimmer a little. Okay. As you're looking at the Tiefling, the something does not appear correct about it. It appears as if, Uriel, you blink your eyes a little bit, wondering if maybe the healing that Svetlana gave you for the intoxication is maybe backfiring on you a little bit and Svetlana-- - Or maybe it's just the remnants of the intoxication. - Svetlana looks down at the potatoes and wonders if maybe this is what potatoes do to eyes. And Hylo is just busy staring at Pazu, just trying to pet the cat. And yeah, and off in the distance, Boga is simply-- - Shimmering. - Shimmering and watching, well-- - Shimmering. - Yes. - Shimmering in your direction. (both laughing) - I would assume Svetlana being the naive kind of like air free person that she is would just be like, and like wave a little bit 'cause she knows that they're staring at her so, or at the group. So she would just kind of wave a little bit. - Svetlana, can you make a instinct role for me to see if you maybe recognize something strange about this Tiefling that you're witnessing? I will in one second once I figure out how to do that. You just got to roll two dice and add your instinct score to it. It's two D12, right? Two D12. Yep. OK, 21 or 22 with hope. Wow. I got a 10 and a lot. So do this. You you look directly through and see behind the illusion. You see a small rivet who as you look through this illusion seems surprised to recognize that you are looking at them rather than looking at what they are presenting to you. Yeah, Svetlana is looking directly in Boga's eyes, which are like three feet lower than the illusion that she is casting. What do you think? She weighs. She weighs, okay. Boga starts looking around a little bit panicked like, "Oh, this has never happened to me before." And Maz and Uriel and Hylo, can you also make an instinct roll for me as well? I want to see if you realize what is going on with Svetlana and Boga, who you don't know is Boga. >> Uriel's got 19 with fear. >> Okay. >> Hylo has a 15 with fear. >> Okay. >> I rolled two dice, but I don't know how this works. >> Add the numbers up. the numbers up and if your hope die is higher, you roll with hope. If your fear die is higher, you roll with fear. - 15 with hope. - 15 with hope, okay. - Don't you add your instinct modifier as well? - You also add your instinct modifier, correct. - My instinct modifier is zero. - Okay, perfect, so 15 with hope. (laughs) - Sounds like a microcosm of the rest of my life. Let's get out of my way. - So you all perceive Boga I guess what I should say is you all notice that the tiefling that you thought you were looking at isn't what you were seeing. But Uriel and Hylo, you maybe don't know what you see outside of that. All you notice is that the tiefling is not real and Svetlana is just kind of waving off into a direction that the that you wouldn't expect based on the positioning of the Tiefling. Mas, you see this ribbit and it is up to you what you do from there. Also game question mechanics. Yes. Do I get a hope now because I rolled with hope? You do. Anybody who rolled with hope. Now I have three out of hope to your character sheet. Correct. OK. I don't really think we all needed to roll there necessarily. I just we have these math rocks. I thought it would be fun for people to roll. Let's see. Can get fear tokens for later. I mean, wait, I'm sure I will to look like what the world safe would be for that. It would probably be a presence role if you'd like to make a presence role and then we can amend a BOGA if you'd like to make a presence role for deceiving. Now this is fine. This fits. I mean, they cleared, they cleared at least an above average difficulty. Everyone. Oh, sure. Yeah. Um, And when I kind of glance over, I see this because I can see through the illusion. Correct. You can see through the illusion. Correct. Yes. So I look at it and really, I just think like, now, wow, that's impressive and both a useful and dangerous, you know, skill potentially. But I'm, you know, both excited about it as well as, you know, have trepidation and, you know, wonder sort of have I ever been deceived, you know, by something like this in the past? You know, cause that's where my mind would typically go. It's, you know, um, I'm jumping around to how, you know, that could be used for both good and, uh, for bad, but, uh, fortunately for this one, it seems, you know, more innocent than anything else. And I, uh, you know, just kind of look over to, uh, it's boat. I keep saying it wrong. Boga, Boga, Boga. I look over to Boga and it's kind of like well played. Also, to be clear, if you were further away based on minor illusion that Boga is doing. If you were further away, you would have been convinced that this was a real tiefling. Um, so just as a, a minor note, uh, it is simply proximity that made you go, no, what maybe that doesn't exactly look like, look like the creature that I thought I saw. Um, so from there, Boga, uh, people have identified you. Would you like to come out of the shadows and greet them? Would you like to remain in the shadows or what would you like to do? I kinda shrink away from them a little more. Okay. Like with my, uh, my cloak. Okay. I would, I think that Lana would be like, come, come, come. And she would like offer her, um, fries. Um, like just saying, come join us, have some food. Uh, Booger's gonna Booger. Um, she looks around like where really, um, but she, uh, decides to, um, how, how close are they to me? Oh, I would say they're 30, 40 meters. They're, they're like, they're very clear. You can recognize all of their features. You can see what they are. They're not like, I mean, if you wanted to dip, you could absolutely get away from them because you have, you have the distance, but, uh, they, they're, they're close enough that, you know, their features are visible and you can see, see them, but not too close. It's not like they're, you're in danger of being snatched. I draw my cloak around me a bit more and I think I can move slightly closer and wave a little bit like questioningly. Okay. What are the rest of you doing? As Baz notices this happen, I sort of get the sense that this seems my initial impression is positive, and so I try to make it a bit more sort of playful. And so I look to my side and sort of see some boxes near one of the stalls, and then sort of jump from box to box using the assistance of my wings to get a little bit of extra air, on top of the, you know, stall and hop a little bit step further and kind of like gesture towards that Lana who's got the fried potatoes while I'm holding mine still in my hand. And you know, I'm not offering mine up, but certainly kind of motioning towards, you know, some Atlanta as to, you know, Hey, come over here, sort of to join us a type of gesture. So you're kind of showing off a little bit, just give it a little, just give it a little fun. Is that, is that what it is? my Bay rat acrobat experience specifically in case it came down to her role. Can you can you roll for agility? I just want to make sure you don't fall. Maybe one of these boxes is empty and you step right through it. So I'm using my Bay rat acrobat thing experience. So then that would mean I get a plus two. Correct. So I got a 19 with hope. So it'd be a 21 with hope. You do you do the most like It's it is a beautiful series of flourishes. You're not just jumping from box to box. It is poetry in motion. You are. Everything you do is impressive to anyone who is willing to be impressed by it, who's watching, maybe a little shimmy as you go. A little a little shimmy shake and anybody. Like I said, anybody who is open to be impressed would be impressed by by what you just did. Jumping jumping from box to off a pillar. You do a little backflip. You as you're about to land from the backflip, you flap your wings, get some more air. It's it's an impressive sight. And I think Svetlana would also notice that Boga is feeling very nervous and timid and so she would kind of try to make a little bit light of the situation. And so she would pull something out of her ear and go like this and it's like a big ball of light. And then she sniffs it and it goes up her nose and then she goes and it shines out of her mouth. And she just kind of does like a few little magic tricks with this little ball of light using her experience with core, with the burning with the light of thousand suns. I probably should make you roll on that, but it's too impressive. I don't want it to to go. It's just it's just a by the way, I should mention when Maz is doing all these flips, not a single fried potato is spilled. Just if one happens to fall out of the container, Maz circles around under it, catches it in her mouth. And you made a mid flip. It's between the two of them. You're surprised that they don't have a stall. off to their own. Eriel is still munching away on potatoes, but expect the show off, Maz. But Svetlana, your abilities have caught me by surprise. Yes, sorry, I don't mean to show off. I just thought that it would maybe make this little tiefling frog in the corner, feel a little bit more at ease and know that we're just kind of we're just friendly and jockeying around. The mask kind of looks over at Hilo and glances at Hilo doing. Hilo is just like staring at this at the little glowing orb thing, like totally lost the attention of anything else and is like. Like like his hands are moving like he's doing it himself. Like he's memorizing the little little showmanship things she's doing to try to to try to duplicate the juggles later. So if anything, you have impressed Hilo. We don't know what your totally impressed me. You don't know what the effect was on Boga, but Hilo is Hilo's hooked. Boga, do you, after witnessing this, do you take any, any further action? Um, I, I didn't realize it was a circus. Do you say this so they can hear that? I tried to say it under my breath, but you can see my tongue fucking clapping about. And then I utilize a bit of steam, as it will. I just make a nice little rainbow, my hands. Svetlana sees it and starts clapping. So good, so good. And Maz glances down also equally, you know, sort of impressed and curious exactly, you know, how that's done, you know, having seen, you know, uses of magic, you know, also in a little bit of awe of Svetlana's display, you know, with also a bit of jealousy as to how they're able to do that with such ease. And Maz looks over at, you know, Bocan sort of says, you know, you like potatoes? I'm, um, we don't really have them where I'm from. Do you mind if I, um, and before I, um, for a wait for an answer, I just, my tongue shoots out and I grabbed the frying. And, um, uh, I'm so bad. I'm so sorry. Got names. - Spitlana? Spitlana's the one who was offering it to you. - Oh. - Or Maz teaches Maz. (laughing) - I'm gonna get the one out of Maz's mouth. Yeah. (laughing) - All right, I'm gonna-- - I'm gonna, I'm gonna Maz caught with his mouth. - I'm gonna need a finesse roll to see how that goes. Don't forget you-- - Oh God, yeah. The D12, yeah. Two D12s, add them up and then looks like you have negative one to finesse. Yeah. Oh, I got 13. Okay. So 13 with a negative one. Or is that with hope or with fear? Oh, sorry. No. Um, no, I, uh, I rolled a 12, get negative one on that on the hope die. Okay. And then what'd you roll on the fear die? I rolled a two on fear die. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So 13 with your negative one. So you add those two numbers, you subtract your, whatever your stat is or add whatever your status depending. So yeah. 13 with hope it sounds like. Um, so due to the complexity of the, the flips and the tricks that Maz is doing, your tongue shoots out and it's right as it's about to latch on to the fried potato. Maz does just a little bit more of a turn and instead your tongue sticks right to the side of Maz's face. And like Maz is startled at first, but in Los Mas chooses to not particularly offended by it. Just did not expect the tongue. - Maz kind of makes a sort of surprise face and then sort of thinks like, not the first time that's happened. then you know, has a sort of playful expression of, you know, hey, I'm, I'm also happy to share mine. I know that you want it with everything. And I'll tell you what, everything is the way to go. So you want a little bit of this and as continues the sort of maneuvers, and, you know, just starts to jump down into a separate box with one sort of extra flip, and then floats down, you know, more gradually with the assistance of wings, then hands one or starts to go closer over to Boca, sort of taking one out and offering it in a clear gesture of, you know, hey, this is I'm open to, you know, sharing this with you as well. And because Maz is no longer doing tricks, Boca, if you'd like to attempt to, or if you'd like to grab this one with your tongue, you wouldn't even need to roll for it. just be a, just be a slayer. I think this one I'm going to go up with my web finger. One of my three web fingers. Slightly damp, but thank you. It certainly feels interesting. Well, I hope that you enjoy it because I'll say this is a great delicacy in some areas. I know that, you know, Uriel is not able to get potatoes nearly as often as she would like. No, it's true. But this is the joy of being a Wonderborn as we are. We get to go and see new places and try new foods. So you're like a nomad. You travel a lot? We do travel a lot. We we make our way through the world, sort of exploring, recording stories, learning about people and cultures and trying to identify what it is that. makes history flow the way that it does. I love that. Do you find that people are mostly accepting of you wherever you go? I know I've heard some stories about goblins, but I don't think that they are true. It depends on the people. People are very different in very locations and communities, depending on their own history, their community's history. There are places that are very remote, but we appear and even though we look and act very differently, they're very welcoming, open, and accepting, and will trade with us. And then in some places, Because, you know, there are people who will see a goblin and know only negative aspects and refuse to learn anything new. Hmm. Sounds troublesome. This is, this is life as a Wonderborn. Take the joys that you can find. - Yes, that's a good way to look at it. - New story sounds lovely. - Yeah. - And Boga, now that you, you guys can go in just a moment, by the way. I just wanna find out, Boga, now that you've taken this fried potato, do you remain with the potato givers, as it were? Or there's our group name. Do you remain with the potato givers or do you, do you, uh, duck back into the alleys where you were previously? Um, I know I'll notice that they're kind of mid conversation. I can just. Lit backwards a bit, right? Slit backwards further into the alley, but with my eyes still on them. Okay. And behind like a box or something. I'm not very good at hiding, so it's kind of a little obvious. JL. Does anybody say anything about... do you notice? C. I think Svetlana would recognize that they're feeling nervous and so she'd be like, "Oh, where'd Boga go? Or where'd they go?" You know, acting like she doesn't see them, but she does. And maybe she would say something like, "Oh, I was really hoping to get to know this person." They seem so nice and cute. The mask kind of looks over at, um, uh, Pazu? Is Pazu the cat or Ponzu? Pazu? It's Pazu. Pazu. Pazu. Looks over at Pazu, you know, seeing if Pazu sort of notices what happens to Boga. Pazu watches. Pazu watches often. And he's resting on his haunches right next to Ariel's leg or hip even at first because you know, Ariel's small and Pazu is large for a sandcat. Knowing into Maz-- He's doing a little tip of his tail, just flicking back and forth as he's just watching. But he perceives no threat from the ribbit. So, you know, he's he's. Uh, I don't want to say standoffish, but he's remote. He's just watching. I must take that as a cue to not push too far because Maz knows from the past that positive is a great judge of character. Right. And it was able to read both people and feelings in these situations and sort of emulates that, you know, feeling of, you know, not pushing forward, but, you know, still trying to be open and welcoming and, you know, gesture and in stance as Maz, you know, stands there sort of munching away. Important question that I'm sure anybody who will ever hear this is going to want to know the answer to. Does this positive get any fried potatoes? Pazu is not as excited about the potato part as Ariel is. Pazu likes the little fried or crispy meat parts that they have topped that with. So Ariel will occasionally sneak a piece down to Pazu, but Pazu mostly does his own meal acquiring. I was going to say this, I mean, this is a, this is a festivity and there are plenty of animals about if you would, uh, if you would like to look for food for Paasu as well. But if Paasu is able to attain that on his own, that's also good. Paasu is good. Okay. And I think, uh, Svetlana would be looking around to see if there's any, um, any restaurants that sell Chever Reki, which is like a meat turnover thing that is like from her hometown, it's like a street food. So she'd be kind of looking around to see if she sees anything resembling her home food 'cause she hasn't been home in a long time. - Okay, would you make a, sorry, instinct role for me? - Well, with fear. - 12 with fear, okay. - Yeah, sorry. - Okay. - Go ahead. - Okay. You look around and there are just so many things and so many different sites to see that you don't see any of the food that you recognize, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not at the, like it's not a part of this festivities, it's just might be that you need to look around more. From where you are positioned, basically everywhere you look is people and stands and stalls, I guess is probably the word I'm looking for. So you can't see too far. You can't see very far. And most of the food in the area that you're in is pretty typical like iguana on a stick and cotton candy, but fantasy, I don't have a good idea for that. So it's, you don't see it here. - Sugar fluff. - Yeah, sugar fluff, there you go. You don't see it here. - Sugar fluff on a stick. - You don't see it here, but that doesn't mean that you won't find it. You have a sense that if you looked around further, you might discover some things, but it would require moving from where you are. - Okay, I think I would tell the other people in the group to keep an eye out. This is really good. I think you all would really like it. It's like a meat-filled pastry fried. It's very, very good, but you can get it filled with other things as well, but it's very good. - Well, what do you call this meat-filled pastry, Svetlana? - Cheboreki. Cheboreki. - I was gonna write that down, but I can't start to write that down, so I'll just go with it. C-H-E-B-U-R-E-K-I. - And now that Svetlana has spelled it for you, all of you can be on the lookout for stands that might have it listed on there. 'Cause everybody has their menus outside. They are doing everything they can to pull in passers by because on the opposite side of things, you guys have unlimited options, but the people selling things have unlimited competition for, you know, you can only eat so much. You can only drink so much games wise cause there are activities you can only do so much. - But Lana, where do you and Cheb Boraki hail from? - Yeah, actually in the mountain. So this is a street food that they often sell at the farmers market. And it's very very good but we only have it maybe once a week. The opportunity to go to this place to get this. So even you know in my hometown it's somewhat rare you can get it all the time. But yeah I'm from Spain and it's like a farming community. I haven't been there in a very long time though, so I'm feeling a little bit, what you had to say, nostalgic for it. Sure, sure. We will, let's, let's, let's wonder, let's browse. We will keep an eye out for this. Little Ribbit, do you wish to accompany us? I accompany you. Sure. We will we will walk around, browse the wares, see what's available, see the site, watch the people. I love a crowd. There's so many things to see. There's it's everybody is unique, but everybody is also included. And also, you can hide in my cloak if you would like. I will not enthusiastically with everything that the real is saying, like crowds are the best. This is a wonderful place. And just. Yeah. You give me a second. And I got back behind the by the crate. It takes me like two or three minutes, but I could I come out What steps out from behind the crate is a what looks kind of like a dwarf, but something's evidently wrong with it. Like the eyes are just a little bit too big. The beard is kind of shiny. Are you using uncanny disguise to disguise yourself? Yes. OK, so I check. So are you perfectly making the dwarf look a little bit odd? Or is that because we're so close that we can tell? It's or because you don't know dwarves very well. Sure. Yeah. But Boga doesn't really know what is really familiar with dwarves. What they look like. So maybe it's like a Boga's impression based on what she's heard or read not actually seen. Yeah, yeah, like I've only seen like bits of dwarf and like patred wanted posters and such. And Maz looks at the disguise and just wonders like in Maz's head she thinks like Where does the potato go? Does, uh, does Boga announce that they are the the ribbit that like because essentially Boga is stepping out behind the from behind a hiding place and a completely different character. Does does Boga intend for everyone else who had seen her previously to recognize her? Or is this are you just appearing as a different character? Well, it's the box. I was it was only a box I was changing behind. So I have it'd be like, the hard body, it is me. It is it is flog. It is ribbit. OK. All right. I a little point of order, if your previous tiefling disguise was supposed to be also an uncanny disguise instead of a Uh, instead of just a minor illusion, I definitely played the rules wrong on that. So that's my, my apologies. No, no, that's fine. I'm still, I'm still an illusion. Okay. Okay. I just want to make sure I was reading uncanny disguise and I was like, there's no way they should have been able to detect your disguise if that's the case. Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm also learning my rules. Uh, so yeah, anyways, we're, we're all still learning things. So I'm, I'm going to make mistakes, but, uh, okay. So you you step from behind behind a box and you are now a dwarf fish. You are the idea of a dwarf. And how's everybody else? I would say Pazu unfazed. Pazu is just like, yep, still sitting there. But to Pazu's perception, That's the same person that stepped behind the box. Yriel is a little surprised, a little sees that there's something not quite right about it. It kind of shrugs it off, you know, this whatever makes them feel good. And so if you're going to join us, what what is your name? I am. My name is "Boger Freesia! You can call me Boger." "Nice to meet you, Boger. I am Ariel. This is Pazu. And these are my companions. I have known Maz for many years and just today met Svetlana. This is gesturing up at Svetlana and up on the other side at Hilo, introducing Hilo as well. Greetings, greetings. Say greetings and, uh, Boag, what brings you to the 100 year celebration? Uh, I... that's something for another time. I just wanted to, um, yeah, I wanted to see the noise was about. Nothing else, no. Just the noise. Do all of your people change clothes so often? I am somewhat of an outlier. Good to know. Do you change your parts often? Very seldom, actually. Much more when I was growing, obviously. Planks grow. Ariel is entirely confused by clanks. And Maz on the other hand just kind of goes with it, just like, that things happen. The world is a strange place that knows that, you know, things are not quite always exactly what they seem. I think the goblin nomads that Ariel is with maybe haven't spent as much time at Cog's Fork. It's maybe more of a newer community that, you know, that has been established and in their wanderings, the goblins just haven't made it there yet. Travel takes time, you know. And you all in the reasons at least some distance to get to the celebration today. So I mean, what luck, what fortune that you that you all ran into each other. Seems about right. core smiles upon us today. Obviously he's led me to a great band of friends here. So it's so nice to meet you all and it's so nice to see new faces and to hear a little bit about your lives. So thank you for sharing. Do you guys want to go explore the city a little bit? I think I heard something about Maz being here before, do you know the area quite well? Yes and no actually. The town has changed in some ways since I was last here, but I know that if we walk down this street there's going to be many different people out on the streets given the celebration. We're not quite sure what we're going to find, but I know that it will be something good and that if we head closer towards, let's say let's go towards the south, that there's definitely, you know, a tavern that we could stop at. Should we choose or we could see, you know, some of the wares that we encounter on the way and we never know what people that we will meet. The all of you kind of know from when you came to Skyland for this, you were given a little bit of a like a pamphlet type thing. Um, and you know that from looking at it, uh, the focus of this first day of the celebration, the hundred year piece is a, is not a one day thing. It is the city essentially shuts shuts down for this celebration. Um, because the city doesn't have to shut down. everybody selling their wares makes more money in this than they ever would in a normal week. But you know that the focus of the celebration is eventually you're going to be headed here. If you can see my ping in Roll20, you'll be headed here where there will be kind of an official pronouncement of the starting of the ceremonies. And then that's when everything officially kicks off, but you're kind of in the pregame phase for now. So you can go find a tavern. There are activities around the, you're kind of in the food section right now, but there are activities to find around the city. There are things to do and it's entirely up to you. If you essentially would like to look for other things to do or skip forward in time a little bit to the the big announcement of the event or if you'd like to get to know each other more or eat more fried potatoes. Padre's potatoes is absolutely not out of potatoes any time soon. When I said South, I meant West. And this map is like I don't have every single stall planned on this map, So it's just directions are hard kind of kind of ideas, but you know that the focus eventually will be at what essentially looks like a little. Empathy at her time, the theater. That was the word I could not think of. Thank you. Yeah. Come, come. Aerial waves and takes off walking with let's go. Let's go see. It's going to fall quickly behind. As it says, classic, classic, you know, And we're. You had a slight. Like. I don't. Waddle gate while trying to walk human or humanoid. So I just got this vision in my head of a dwarfish thing kind of waddling like a frog. The way they're like, just like it just doesn't like like it. Mas looks over and just kind of sees it and like the brain's kind of broken for just like a second of like That doesn't quite fit together. But then remembers that. Oh wait a second. This is not actually like a dwarf Mas glances over it And follows along and kind of scoots, you know knowing that like when your girl gets going that uh, you know It's usually a good time to follow And Svetlana would see that as well and be like you can hop on if you want. I'm pretty strong So she offers to Boga. You can get on my shoulders. No, no, no, no, I'm okay. Okay, but just let me know. And Baz kind of glances over at Hilo and, you know, looks at how Milo sort of, or Hilo, sorry, starts to move and, you know, takes notice that Hilo as a automaton sort of, sort of moves with different sounds and a particular sort of gait that looks like? - Heiloh's got a very lanky stride. He's the tallest of this group, I think, by a good head. And his arms are held at kind of a weird angle as he walks and ambles along. And oddly enough, he's walking and he only walks on the, instead of on the balls of his feet, walks on his toe, kind of balanced forward. As Maz sees this and kind of wonders, like, I wonder how well Hilo could jump and what that would look like. Or if Hilo had to run off, what would that gate, you know, steam because Maz is in a depth sort of, you know, um, flying and, and jumping and, and, you know, kind of sort of acrobatic tendencies is always looking at others and wondering if they could do the same. And if they did try what that would look like as they sort of amble on and follow with Uriel and seeing, I'm going to say it wrong again, Pazu, is that right? That is correct. OK, Pazu and Uriel, you know, how walking along the the street. As you all are walking in a group along the street, You get the sense that there is someone who is. You don't know that they're following you, but you get that. You get that feeling kind of in the back of your neck that there is. There is someone watching. There is someone nearby. Um, you're not necessarily afraid, But you get the you just kind of get that little like the little tingling sensation of like, Hmm, I wonder what that is. I wonder what that is. Anytime any of you turn around. You don't you don't see anything, but you still get the sense that there is there is something just out of your eyesight. That is maybe keeping an eye on you. But with that, OK, no, I'll say with that feeling mass, you know, jumps kind of glances around and, you know, makes a jump into the air, flaps her wings, you know, a few times, get a little bit of height. It sort of looks at Svetlana like, hey, what was that food you were looking for again? But while making this a pronouncement sort of uses that as an opportunity to glance around and to see if there's anything, any people that jump out at Mazz to see, as an astute observer, whether or not anything jumps out any particular stall or individual. - Okay, give me a instinct to roll with your astute observer experience added on top. - It'd be a plump one. It would be, oh, that's not good. I actually know it's fine. So I got a 20 with fear. So 21 with fear. - Oh my God. Okay. - I don't know what that was. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. - Well, so while you are flying up and looking around, you indeed do notice a stall that contains the food that Svetlana was looking for. I had blanking on the name. - Cheboreki. Cheveraki. Yeah. Mm hmm. Cheveraki. You do find a stall that is selling that food. But while you're looking around, you also. A small creature in a black cloak with kind of gold trim all around catches catches your eye. And as you are looking at this creature, the creature looks back at you and you catch a glimpse of a ribbit with wide eyes wide because you have spotted him and in the moment that you take to to blink the ribbit is gone presumably I mean there's there's all kinds of nooks crannies there's people you can hide behind But you have made eye contact with a rivet who appears. Your your your gut is telling you is is following you. That that is all that you know, but you do find the food that's what Lana was looking for. And you have you've seen a little bit that. Might matter. As I slowly flow downward, I point in the direction of Svetlana, there's the Chevarekhi that you so desire further down this street at one of the stalls. And I take note of that and the ribbit that I saw, not concern or not defensive, but concerned, wondering You know what may bring that but knowing that in a city like this in an event like this that you know people um You know may follow for a variety of reasons and I don't feel threatened by it. You know, necessarily it's more like filed away for later Would you tell the rest of us? What you saw or no No But you told us about the chipper icky place Oh, I told you about the chipper icky place. I'm not keeping that to myself. I was like making sure that we know Awesome. I get very good even at excitement and Svetlana starts just running ahead towards the place. I don't know how long it takes to get there. Jim, it's not too far. It's you know, it's just, you know, a stone's throw away. You know, it's you know, well within a quick shuffle distance. You have to work your way through the crowd a little bit. You're kind of like, I mean, much like Hilo earlier chasing a cat. I'm still picturing Hilo like elf just like chasing a cat around the house. Not nearly as hungry. Right. Different intentions. Same same same movement. No, much much like Hilo earlier, you you have a singular focus now and you are pushing your way to to this food from your homeland. And, uh, it's up to everybody else, whether or not they move with you or what. Bogo remarks. Um, the, the, uh, the bright one seems excited. What? Wait, why, why such for us? Why, why such rush? Do you ask that to Svetlana or to yourself? I just just look out loud. Yeah. OK. I mean, I presume that Svetlana is kind of already run ahead, so I don't know that she would even hear that. That's right. Anybody else have anything they want to do or are you all just hopping in line to to get some more food? All right. So you go ahead. Go ahead. Not only said his math would meander, you know, long, you know, no knowing where Svetlana is going, not needing to rush, but, you know, sort of working her way through the crowd while, you know, simultaneously, you know, taking, you know, sort of small glances backward and towards the side just to, you know, try to keep an eye out for anything that, you know, maybe noticed regards to that ribbon without, you know, mentioning it to anybody else and sort of, you know, looks back towards and just like, just like you can't get between yuriel and some potatoes. I guess it's kind of the same thing. - By the way, Mas, have you been paying attention to Seaborn in the times that you've rolled with fear? - No. - Every time you roll with fear, you're supposed to put a token on your community card. - Did I have a community card in front of me? - No. - Oh wait, I clicked the plus sign. - Yes. So you can only have up to your level, to your level one. So you can have one and you roll with fear. - So I can have one fear. - But what that means is just read the rest of your card. I just wanna make sure I'm trying to keep an eye on everybody's communities. - Oh, I can use it to get a plus one modifier if I wanna use the fear. - Yep, so. Sorry, there's a lot of community and class features and all these things that I'm trying to keep track of while we're doing all this. So while in line, you're kind of in a little bit of a different section of the festivities now. And over here is maybe more of the regional specific foods. So you're seeing a lot of things that you've never tried before. There's all different foods from all different areas of the Shadowlands around you. But you're also, since you're kind of on the edge the food area, you also start to notice kind of the events that are also taking place. And you see big signs that say things like feats of strength, feats of agility, feats of humor. You see all these different signs, feats of knowledge. And these are activities that take place at the 100 Years piece. different booths that have different things to do. So you all notice those while Svetlana waits in line for food and I will leave it up to you what you do. - Hello kind of leans down to Svetlana and says more loudly maybe than he needed to. Are these only savory pies? - Mostly yes. But they can be filled with multiple different things. For example, I usually get cabbage and mushroom. But they have also minced meat and onion, things like that. I don't know, actually. I'm sure they might sell other fried desserts here that are not Cheburureki. But you can ask. And once I get up to the front, I would order a Cabbage and Mushroom Ceboreki, please. Maybe two, one to share with my friends. And also, she would be noting that feats of strength game because she is very tall and very muscular cow-like body. So she feels like she could maybe do a test of strength pretty well. And then she would gesture for her friends to come up as soon as the food is ready so that she can share. - The food comes out with no hassle. Once again, just kind of, it's just standard gold piece. You don't have to mark anything. It's a, maybe we should say all the food is included as a part of your entrance to the festivities. We'll say that was paid beforehand. So you can just order what food you want. So yeah, you get your food. You, um, Svetlana gets all the food that she ordered and anybody else is welcome to order or look around or check out events or whatever you want to do. It is your festivities, everyone. I low, um, when the food arrives, takes again, a big giant sniff of the food, just trying to get, get a sense of it. And then, um, that, but doesn't actually take any of the offer, but nods politely. Like, thank you. And then starts kind of scanning the booths nearby and nudging when he thinks he sees one that would be good for, um, Oh, some, one of his friends to go, go check out. Okay. And I would be breaking the Chabot Ricky in half. I give half to Ariel, another half to Boga, and another half to Mads, and then I take the last half and I say, "Mmm, just like my mother used to make." When Boga takes this half, well, this piece, and when... because she's not used to dwarves, they how they do anything when she opens her mouth in like one mask rain there's dwarf the eyes kind of go to the side when she opens her mouth. She just kind of inserts the inserts the Cheberecki. Like the whole thing. The whole thing. A little child sees this and screams. Runs back to run runs back to her mom. Mom, mom, there's something wrong with the dwarf. But with one, I like blink with my eye. I open it, blink with the left eye. Like just sequentially blink. That this is this is this is good. This is good. Yes, I like this. What what is it made of? Mass still looks over and wonders what happened to that potato from earlier because it disappeared as far as I know. It's it's basically a turnover, but in the inside is vegetables. So this one has cabbage and mushrooms. Just like I like it. Delightful. - Mm-hmm. So I would assume once I finish that I would kind of wander over closer to the games section if everyone's finished with their food. - Is there anything else anybody would like to do or are you following along to the events area or not following? It's all up to you. - Oh, following along with Svedlana and sort of similar to what Hilo was doing, is looking around, kind of taking on all the events and thinking, you know, what would others be, you know, proficient at as well as, you know, myself and lancing over towards Bo wondering, you know, with the kind of trepidatious sort of nature that we've seen so far, you know, which one would fit with Boak. - Okay, okay. Bogga Iriel, what would you like to do? Iriel is just people watching, just wandering back and forth, looking at-- vendors have art. They have commestibles. They have so many things to see. And so many people from all over the world have come to this celebration. Ariel's just entertained by the surroundings and kind of follows along, you know, whenever some member of the group pulls one way or another, that just kind of follows along in the draft, the wake. Boger's looking around just in awe of all this stuff, all these festivities. She's never seen so many people having fun. So many people playing games. So many people in one place even. She sees a like a whack-a-mole type game. And she wanders over and says, "Excuse me, how much for the game? May I try?" Give it a try, of course, you're here! And, uh... Uh, Booga in it... Booga assumes a really... Uh, a stance with... Uh... Like her knuckles on the tops of her legs, slightly crouched. Mm-hmm. In the dwarf form. Okay. And, uh... Does bopping the bopping the whack-a-mole things not with the mallet but with her tongue? Okay Normally the tongue is considered a finesse weapon but because of the nature of this This whack-a-mole game, I think we're gonna say bopping Yeah, the bopping because of the bopping if you could make for me a strength role and How will you roll determines? How will you do? Okay, I like that Oh It's going to hope die and three on the fear die. Okay with a zero okay, so a You said four and three. So you take a hope. You take a hope. Any time I assist and like lift Boga up so that they're closer to the the holes to whack. Or is it too late? Um, it's too late for this first this first turn. So you you witness Boga kind of like hop up and just go after the whack a mole over and over again and Boga is definitely definitely connecting a few times, but missing maybe more than hitting. I mean, it's whack a mole. It's chaotic. They're popping up everywhere. So, yeah, I mean, at the end of the turn, the buzzer goes off and the and the the carnival barker goes. Nice try. Nice try. And no face is told by the tongue. Not not fazed at all. I mean, that it's a it's a carny. They've seen everything. So the. But have they seen a dwarf tongue do that? This this particular carnival Barker has seen things that you couldn't imagine. Things that you could not describe for fear of jail time. So the the the barker reaches underneath the the whack a mole to like where the prize area is and sets a glass of water. On on the counter in front of you and goes, here you go. And inside of it is just the tiniest little fish you've ever seen, like almost like barely a fish, potentially the size of a goldfish cracker. But he slides across to you. And that's your responsibility now. - We call that a guppy. - I was gonna say a tadpole, and then I was like, wait a minute, this is a ribbit. - Wait a minute. (laughing) - So yeah, that is the result of your first game. - Congratulations, Bo. - And in general, they all have prizes, But in terms of like, it's, it's, it doesn't cost much to play these, not enough to make counting worth it. So, uh, they all, they all have prizes, but in, yeah, they're just gonna let you play and if you win big, you win big. Uh, it's all funded by the, the city, the magistrate, the rulers. So, uh, any, any money that you don't spend comes from the ruling class, which that's not your money. It doesn't bother you. Fantastic. What do you want to do now? I thought that looked like a lot of fun and he's going to try to do that. OK. Similarly. But not with this. Oh, I was going to say similarly. OK, that's a bold move. All right. With his quick hands, he's going to be moving around there. OK. If you could make for me. Can I spend a hope and roll an advantage for them or is that for combat? Yeah, you can you can spend a hope to roll an advantage dice. That's a D6, right? Advantage is a D6 that you add. Yeah. I take I take a hope off my thing and then I roll. Right. Right. And, Hylo, you are going to also roll strength because I think that's only fair. I don't think. I mean, I'm not using my tongue, but OK, I'm fine. I mean, tongue should have been a finesse weapon, but like it's, you're trying to pop things. That's kind of a. - Trying to pop them quickly though, so I can use my quick hands. - You know what, you know what? I'll let you go with agility. That's fine, that's fine. - I don't care which one I use. I just wanted to use my plus one bonus. - Oh, you were trying to use finesse. - No, my quick hands. - Oh, oh, oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, so either way. - I can use it with strength. It's just that I'm trying to go as fast. - Oh yes. Sorry, you're trying to use your experience? Yeah, you can use your experience, But it's I'd say it's still a strength role. That's perfectly fine. OK, and I have a 20 with hope. Jesus, that count teaches advantage. And I give them a plus five plus five. Twenty five. Oh, wow. OK. So after after watching and processing and analyzing everything that Boga Boga did while attacking the moles, Maybe you notice that maybe you notice there's a pattern. It's not as random as it seems. Yeah, it's not. It's not necessarily a random thing. And you managed to connect on almost every single hit. You're just every single kind of thing is something other than a mole. And I can't do it on the fly. Yeah. Every single mole that pops up with the exception of. two. So you get like 18 out of 20. You're just bopping them on the head like little, little bunny frou frou or whatever it is. So you get them all except for two. And when you're done and maybe there's a little smoke coming out of your smoke coming out of your joints because you were moving so fast. The, the, the Barker genuinely looks impressed. I don't know that he's seen someone master that so quickly. Like he's seen people do really well, but not on like such an early try. And he reaches below the counter again and pulls out another glass of water and then winks at you and puts it back underneath. And instead pulls out a handful of gold, drops it on the counter, slides across, and you now have an extra handful of cold. - Nice. - Well done, Hilo. - Hilo bows a little bit, little flourish of his cloak, and then whispers, like stage whispers over to Voga. We had a similar game in Cogsburg. Not quite the same, the pattern was different. What's the game called? Darn it. No wrong answers. No wrong answers. You just make something up. Vocal won't know. I see the note shaking. He kind of glances toward towards. Oh, no, I forgot the cat's name. Pausey. Can I pause you? He glanced at her pause you almost apologetically, and it was it was cat attack. Cool. Oh. That has you is unimpressed. And he kind of shrugs a little bit like. For some reason, some of my people thought that was amusing. It's an interesting concept. Now that you have essentially immediately mastered the game of Whack-a-Mole that you that you approached, the Barker is not like he He was very welcoming previously, but having to hand over a handful of gold has kind of chilled the air between you a little bit. And you can tell he's he's kind of looking behind you and past you in different directions. He doesn't want the rest of you to to play because it was not his intention to have to to give out. Gold, it wasn't his intention for anybody to win his game. So he is. He's colder to you, but it is up to you. I think your your is is well traveled and a world worldly and sees the annoyance of the person running this all and kind of gathers everybody up. Come, come, you've done well. Let's see what else is there. He's not being subtle about it. He is the the the the glare could cut cut holes in all of you. So I love like I love like watching the watching the next person play like he's going to go again and just ignoring the glares. Come, come, come, Hylo. We will see what else is available. But I could. Oh, OK. Is this the strength game that you were talking about? I was not. No. OK. I spent a lot of had her eye on that, so. OK. So you you wander over to the big sign that says feats of strength and underneath the big sign is a an open area with a circle in the middle. And inside the circle is a giant like. OK, to be clear, it's not a giant. It's a very large fungal. So inside is a very large fungal fungal, and he's not just like tall. He's he's muscular. He's built and inside that circle, he's kind of. He's he's kind of gesturing. Matt notices a doggy running across the walkway there, then barking and then run off. Right. There's tons of crazy in this crowd. tons of animals at the festival. Nobody's going to leave their pet behind for something like that. Right. So I'll do evidence. So the fun girl is kind of gesturing and egging the crowd on. And he's like, who who will challenge me? Who? And everybody is just kind of like booing him, cheering him. There's just everybody's really amped up. You know, people are like spilling drinks because they're so excited to witness the next challenger. You don't, however, get an idea of what the competition is yet. - I think Svetlana would be stretching. Just kinda getting limber and eyeing him up and down to see what his weaknesses are, just in case she had to fight him. Okay. Would you like to make an instinct roll to see if you can detect what his weaknesses are? Okay. That is a 18 with hope. And you guys roll real high. Uh, so take a hope, um, take a hope and, uh, at an 18, you notice that as he is kind of walking around, taunting the crowd, that sort of thing, that maybe he seems to be favoring his right leg a little bit. He maybe seems to be like, you don't know for sure, because that's maybe outside of your realm of experience, but he definitely looks like his right leg is a little bit tender, maybe, because of the way he walks on it. Okay. I think I would walk up to him and say, I think I'm your next challenger. He laughs, looks down at you because he's tall. He's very big. He's tall. Uh, and he goes, you. I'm also tall. Um, but yes, me. Um, uh, years of working on a farm. It just makes me strong. - And he says, "You again?" And then turns to the crowd and says, "Her?" And everybody just like cheers from all around. Everybody erupts in cheers 'cause I mean, they don't think you're gonna win, but they wanna see it happen. So you get positioned in the circle. You get positioned in the circle and what you find out very quickly when he steps in, He puts one foot down, puts the other foot down, and you realize that this is essentially a competition to see who can push the other one outside of the circle first. - Yep. - And so this being feats of strength, we're gonna have to roll strength against each other to see who is gonna win. Would you like to roll first or would you like me to roll first? I can roll first. Okay. I love nudges, uh, miles real quick and it's like, I bet she wins. Well, side bet. Okay. On the side. He said, I think she can, but she's going to have to work for it. I've been rolling good this whole time. Okay. Uh, let's see. - Okay. 11 plus two, 13. 13 with fear. - 13 with fear, okay. Let me check to see how he does. So on your first approach, you lunge in and immediately just try to push him off balance, figuring that that is the best method for getting him out of the circle, getting him out of the ring. And on your first push, nothing happens. He is, you are pushing against a solid mushroom wall. You are pushing against the unmovable, immovable, immovable object. He stands his ground and again, you're tall, he's taller. and he looks down at you and just a big grin across his face. I'm going to need your roll again. Either of you have moved. You've moved closer to the center of the circle technically. So that's in your favor. So what do I do again? If it's the same number, sorry, that's great. You got both. Okay. So that's a, how about two to string critical success, the critical success. So you gain a hope, you clear a stress, which I don't think you have because we haven't had anything. And I mean, I don't know why. Can you see that? - I can't see it. - You rolled a 20. You rolled a natural 20. - So we both had 20? - Well, you essentially both had a critical success. So the only role that could have possibly prevented, no, so you technically rolled higher. Yeah, so you rush in having kind of calculated from your first time you push, you realize that's not really the right way to do this. And you move in and right as you're about to push, you kind of dodge to the right and he's braced to try to, like he's leaning forward to try to like brace against your push and the leaning forward that he's doing when you don't push in the direction that he's expecting causes him to stumble forward. And so now you are essentially situated at the side of him and he is stumbling forward on one foot. His right foot, might I mention. I need you to roll again. And by the way, I'm not gonna take fear every single time. If you roll fear every time, that's ridiculous. I don't need that. - I like the plotting fingers that she's got going on right now though. She's like, yes. - 10 plus two, 12 with hope. - 12 with hope, okay. I mean, you're probably maxed on hope. Don't forget you have, okay, he rolled. - You can use it. - I can use hope? - I mean, depending on what your abilities are, maybe, I don't think there's anything in your-- - Oh, you have to use hope to use an experience. - Oh yes, you do have to use hope to use experience, correct. - So I'm-- - So anybody who has used a hope or using experience-- - I'm taking two down for my hope right now then. - Yeah, anybody who's done that, good call, good call. He rolled a two. So your move, your critical success that you rolled previously threw him so far off balance that you just kind of hip check him from the side and he stumbles and he doesn't quite fall out of the ring. Like this is his thing. He is the challenger always. He doesn't quite fall out of the ring, but he is right on the edge and another good push is going to win this. So, oh, she's stretching, okay. - 19 with fear. OK. These dice are baked. Yeah, with. Yeah, where do I get her dice? Can I get some of this? With honestly, so much less effort than anyone should. She's got a tray. How does she get a tray? That's the lid to my tray, technically, but it's true. Yeah, so she with with effort that like a lack of effort that surprises all of you after the hip check. You just kind of. Just. Oh, yeah, you you you one finger push him. And he's like balancing and I'm just like. And he like he does the arm windmill arm as he flies back and falls on his butt right outside the right outside the circle. And the crowd. It was completely silent. Some of these people have been here all day and have witnessed this this giant mountain of a fungal just just win and win and win. And I got to be honest, I was expecting him to win as well. But you won and. I wipe that off of my hands and immediately I don't, I don't act superior. I just put my hand down and go to help him up. He, uh, he huffs, but he takes your hand and accepts the help upward. And then from kind of behind the, the ring that you're at the, this stall, it's not really a stall, but this area is carnival Barker comes out and gestures to you to to open your hands, gestures to you to open your hands. And then gestures again when he sees you only put one hand up. And then three handfuls of gold set in into your hands. The the fungal has been winning all day, and there has been lots of money to be made. Uriel starts clapping and hoping, praising Svetlana. The rest of the crowd can stay silent, but they should probably join in. She eyes everybody in her group. As soon as the as soon as the money hits Svetlana's hands, the crowd goes nuts. Everybody is just like losing their mind because they can't believe what they've just witnessed. And Mass kind of looks over at And Pazu is just like still unimpressed. Like, come on, Pazu. Like, you know, you got to be impressed at this point. But characteristically, nope, nope, not not an indicator one way or the other. No, not at all. Pazu licks the back of his paw and just rubs it along the top of his top of his head. Doesn't even know. Unfaced. Doesn't even know that that happened to any of them. And that Lana is just looking down at this pile of gold in her hand. it's probably more gold than she's ever seen in her life. She grew up very poor on a farm. And so she was just like, I can't believe I just won this for such a simple thing. - And Maz looks over equally impressed by the performance and noting that away, that it's not just the kind of poof, magic that we ate and then threw back out, right? But noting those abilities away and thinking of, you know, both the positive impression, you know, so far, the generosity and the humility, but also then the benefits of Svetlana, you know, also the joining the group and seemingly valuable ally that, you know, she could be. - The carnival barker who after he hands you the money, looks at you, kind of claps you on the shoulder and says, I can't believe you did that. I can't believe it. All day, people have been challenging. People have been challenging my champion and none of them have come close. And you arrive and make him look like a fool. It's a fool. No, it was a good battle for sure. No, he eyes you up and down. Would you like to stay and take on more challengers for me? There's gold in it. I look around to my friends. I don't know. We might have other places to be. Kind of as a question to everyone else. Ariel speaks up. We do. I plan to go to the opening ceremony at the amphitheater. You are welcome to join me. Or you can stay if you if you prefer. And I will nod to the barker and say that is very gracious of you. But I think I must take my leave now. He looks upset, but he has no way in his power to keep you to keep you working his his stall. So he he nods at you and kind of disappears back in the in the in the crowd a little bit and the the fun girl a little bit shaken positions himself back in the ring again. Realizing that he can't really taunt challengers quite as much until some people filter away and they don't realize that he just lost so horribly. So Amaz kind of glances over to Boggins like, well, you're the boss, so I'm going to go follow her over there anyhow. Mm hmm. And I think go over to him and back and just be like, good job. I don't know if I could give him any healing for falling on his butt, but he's so at least he's OK. OK, I'll just he's got a he's got a mushroom, but so it's it's. And it was his pride. His pride was hurt more than right. And you don't you don't have a spell for fixing pride damage currently. Sure. OK. So yeah, go ahead. I'm sorry. I was going to say Boga could go ahead. All right. But we'll look we'll just look a little bit disappointed. They enjoyed that that more than they expected they would. But they they they were absolutely that they follow a little bit behind. Is would you like to check out any of the other stalls? We have other other feats that you can attempt. Or would you like to head to the opening ceremony? What kind of other feats do we see as you're as you're kind of walking away from the feats of strength, you see other areas where one says feats of agility. And you can see kind of from the way you're looking, then it's like essentially an obstacle course. Like you have, you're essentially racing to see if you can beat a certain time. Um, so that that's one of them. There's one that's labeled feats of humor and inside the feats of humor area is a, the like the most straight faced person you've ever seen, just kind of staring blankly. And you don't know what that's about, but you see a sign and you see the person. And then there's also a sign that says feats of knowledge. And you see some people sitting in there, they have drinks, they're at a table, and you see somebody kind of upfront with a piece of paper that appears to be reading from it. Outside of that, you see some other various carnival games, like you see more more versions of whack-a-mole. You see like a ring toss. You see you see a lot of different opportunities to get more goldfish. If that's your if that's your intention. So, yeah, you have you have a bunch of different things you can do or you can head to the opening ceremony. I think that Lana would nudge high low and be like, This booth with the humor is reminding me of you actually with your kakkenlakken joke. You should give it a try. Hello. Who had been clapping very loudly for the victory that he predicted, by the way. Kind of looks taken aback for a moment. Like. That he's he's like. Yes, of course. And he steps forward. You you clearly, clearly uncomfortable, but but stepping forward. And you see as Hilo steps forward a another Barker. This one's got like a big handlebar mustache that curls around. Like it almost it curls into glasses around. There's no lenses, but it's it's just a stylish stylistic choice. And I step right up, step right up. Try to make the unsmiling person laugh. Step right up. And he gestures an arm out to the person that you saw previously who dour to describe this person is not strong enough of a word. This is this is a person who has maybe never known joy just based on his facial expression. And your task, should you choose it, is to attempt to make him laugh. Okay. No pressure. No pressure. So, Hyla walks forward, gives a bow again of acknowledgement to this person and says, "I met a new friend today. He's a, he's a ribbit. He was, he was so hungry. He said that he hadn't had a bite all day. So I bit him. To be clear, I'm not the I'm not the person who's attempting to be glad. I'm going to need a presence role. All right. Just say I'm just glad we went straight straight to the dad jokes. I mean, I'm just glad that he had that on lock and it was ready because I was rolling through them in my own brain. So great job, high low. Great job. So. Oh, I got two nines. - Plus two. - Amazing. - All right, so you take a hope, you clear stress, and... - Good luck with that GM. (laughs) - As you are, as you, you tell your joke, you're completely straight faced. - Oh completely. - You're completely straight faced. You want, in my mind at least, and you can correct me 'cause it's your character, but you understand humor, you know humor, but like it's humor is like a, almost like a science to you. Like you were like, I understand that this is where I tell the joke. This is where the punchline hits. And so you look him in the eye as you deliver this joke and nothing happens at first. And then you start to see a little, little crinkle just right above his eyebrow as he's like you can feel the moment coming and then a smile cracks on his face and as he as as the smile spreads across his face you hear a little snort and then he has to cover his mouth and he he quickly covers his whole face and turns away because he can't have anybody seeing this, but you absolutely have accomplished a feat of humor and the Carnival Barker rings a bell and you get yourself another handful of gold. He says to the Barker, he's like, "He couldn't face that I won." - The Barker reaches back in, takes one piece of gold back. (laughs) Takes one piece of gold back. - Word. - I thought it was amazing, Hylor. - And then when you're done looking down. - He turns to Bogan and says, "I did not really bite you." - We're talking about me? It was a story. You had me worried. I thought you had gone delusional. And after you have this little interaction, you look back and the, the unsmiling man is standing back in his original place. Just completely straight faced and dead eyed. He's back in, he's back in his character. You can tell that it is not very often that that he breaks. It's not very often that any of these stalls have to pay out. So that's just things to herself. And has things to herself like, well, can't compete with that one. Jeez. Yeah. What would you like to do now? I'm as kind of looks over towards a yurial and sees you what she thinks is a little bit of. And seen as kind of you know looking around glancing up coming because there's no watches I guess at the sort of sun in the sky like thinking you know like oh time is passing and sees yurial kind of glancing in the direction of the. To be called an amphitheater what we call that thing amphitheater yeah. Okay, amphitheater. And then also just thinks quite honestly to herself, you know, like, man, like, I can't compete with that. And it also looks at the obstacle course, the agility, feet of agility and things. Honestly, I don't know that that'd be as much of a challenge for me. And I'm not interested in, you know, going off in front of this group and feel at the same time that a lot of these folks, this is the way that they make a living. And I'm not here to take advantage of that and knowing that it could come off that way that I would rather not put them in that spot, especially the people at the front. They are probably not the owners of the business and what's potentially suffer for those payouts and says to. Mass is also wise in the ways of hard novel barkers. So yeah, but Ariel agrees and is like, come, come. We have We've had many wins today. We let let's move on before people become unhappy with us. As you as you say that, you look around and you can kind of see some of the previous carnival barkers like whispering to each other and pointing to your group and starting to get a little bit suspicious. I know anybody who would be running this game or these games is starting to get suspicious about how many times you guys are winning because that was not planned. So. Did not expect multiple critical successes. Some of these had pretty high difficulties established. Anyway. Are you sure, Uriel, you didn't get to play yet? Yeah, I'm I'm not not one for competition. Wait, this is a competition. It's good. The competition, if you win. True. Anyway, so you make your way to the amphitheater. That we done with the fun fun and games section. I would say that's that, Lana, on the way to the amphitheater is feeling bad about having so much money because like I said, she's never had this much money in her life. So she's kind of trying to find people to give money to on the way. Anybody that looks like they're done on their luck or, you know, just needs a coin or two to, you know, get a good meal or whatever. So I would say she probably spends at least one bag of money by like giving it to people. Do you have bags of money? I thought you just had her handfuls. She gets one handful of money at least. Do me a favor and make a make an instinct role. And. That is a 12 plus 13. Um. I would say she probably is using her experience of my life is not my own. Would you say that's fair? Sure. Spend. She spends a hope and adds. What is it? 1D6? They just add whatever one or two. Whatever your thing is. Yeah. Because one plus two, one plus one. Yeah. Plus two. Plus two. So it was nine something. Hope. With hope. Yeah. OK, so you get your hope back that you spent to use your experience. So as you are moving your way through the crowd towards the amphitheater, you you noticed a hand out. That is the hand is essentially reaching out for money. Like you don't necessarily see who it is. It is a person in a dark cloak with their head covered. The hand is is not human, but most of it is covered by this dark cloak and you successfully give money to whoever this is. OK. When you look back to your friends who are maybe looking at you to to see what you're doing and then turn back. The person that you gave money to is no longer there. So does Maz notice this person? Roll for instinct. Let me know. Probably critical success, let's be honest. Oh, no, no, oh, gosh. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Nine fear. Nine with fear. Not only do you not notice this person, you. Are walking along and one of the stalls has essentially a metal sign out front kind of advertising what they're selling and your your toe. Um, your, your toe just jams straight into the metal sign and you don't take any damage, but you, you definitely feel it. You're, you're probably using your wings a little bit more to move, like just to get you off that foot now and then. Um, so now as it happens, I kind of glance over to your lungo, the toe again, and flap, flap, flap, but try to like kind of limp along a little bit as I go. Um, but I tried. Amazing. All right. Anything else you want to do on the way to the amphitheater? Are you going to go take your seats? Well, actually, I was going to as a mass hobbles along, really using the assistance of her wings to get there and sort of puts her hand just, you know, not on top of, but sort of gesturing down with all the money and the winnings that Svetlana has received and says, you know, that just as the sun rises and falls, so will our fortunes. And so we appreciate your generosity, but we want to be mindful that we don't know what's coming next for us too. - That's very wise. - Yeah. And then we, then as he's walking along. - I love the man who's doing this as they're going along. He's just happy with the little jingle of points against his side. (laughing) It makes a very pleasant jingle. You're a boga. Anything that you would like to do, or are you just going to go make yourself comfy in, in some seats at the amphitheater or some stands? Ariel is going to, uh, yeah, find, find a good, good seat in the amphitheater and, um, you know, an eyeball, anybody who tries to encroach on the space that she's set aside for her friends. So you're holding seats at a movie theater. Got it. I totally am. Yep. And Mads is thinking to herself exactly what I'd expect. Where are you positioned at the amphitheater? Oh, kind of. You can click to ping, by the way, on the little thing if you want. OK, yeah. You can click like I can say like a little I need to like zoom in here and hands. And Hans. Well, I think How's how do ping? Thank you. You can just click and hold. Okay. So mostly back middle. Yeah. Right, right next to an aisle. They're probably between rows and seats, you know, so we were back a little ways. Can, can get a good view of everything, but also have a nice access to an exit. Okay. As you are sitting down, probably too loud for how like what this amphitheater is really well designed to carry sound. And as you are sitting down, people at the front, so kind of where I'm pinging here, sound a like a revelry of trumpets to let you know and to let anybody know, like the intentions of this is to draw in the crowds that are nearby to kind of kick off the festivities. But from where you're sitting, it's pretty loud, even though you're pretty far back. And after the trumpet sound, there's like a minute or two to kind of let everybody settle and get their seats. And, you know, people are crowded in like you thought it was packed before in the stalls, but people were milling about. This is like shoulder to shoulder. Some people try to stand in front of you in the aisle and you kind of give them a little nudge to let them know that you want to be able to see as well. Yeah, a little nudge with my foot in the back of their locked knee. So they kind of just bobble. Would you like to make a roll about that? See if he kills somebody. That's up to you, Tim. I just say that Matt sees this and is like, oh, he's so aggressive. Always. Come on, I'm short. The the the person that you nudge in the back of the foot stumbles, but based on the the two, the two big tankards of me that look mostly empty in their hands, they're probably been stumbling most of the day anyway already. And they don't think too much of it. And they move on. But when the crowd is gathered, the herald of the square with a booming voice proclaims, Come one, come all, gather round. The celebration of a hundred year piece is about to begin. And then the trumpet sound again. And again, they're way too loud that just like you're kind of. You know, the ringing in your ears is is a bit much. But once the sound echoes out, the herald continue. Somebody says, Ariel. Yeah. Ariel has, uh, as many goblins do large ears. And this is a bit, a bit overwhelming, a bit jarring. Not, not pleased by the noise, kind of shaking her head. Get the ringing to go away in their defense. They only do this once every hundred years. So they kind of, nobody is alive who did it last time. Uh, let it go. This one. In a time the Herald continues by the way in a time before you and before me this land We all know as Skyland was an area of great contention Wars were fought and lives were lost for who would claim this land The Herald pauses there a silence falling over the crowd Everyone around has probably lost someone or been related to someone lost to these wars That is until the great leaders from each side came together to find a solution Queen Margaret from the East and Prince Amatus from the West sat down and figured a solution that would be best for all. Take Skyland from its place in the center of their territories and through the power of magic raise it into the sky a shining capital for all and then as if it's almost been rehearsed a cheer erupts from all around you. That is this land that you're standing on that is this place a symbol of peace of prosperity and of safety and As he says this a young girl maybe 10 or 12 years old You can't make out too many details, but she stumbles up kind of like right in front of the Herald even from the distance that you are you can tell that she She's not doing well. She's not Stumbling the way the the the people who've been imbibing have been stumbling but she's she's stumbling like something is wrong and the herald Immediately stopped speaking when he sees her and she turns to the crowd and says Help Then she collapses All right That's where we'll stop for the day then. I was worried we wouldn't have enough to do and we didn't get through most of what I had planned. Hey! Good job! Successfully distracted by shiny's for the win. the win.
